How Do You Like to Go Up In A Swing |

The red work embroidered blocks were purchased pre-stamped and the border was designed by the quilter. The quilting is a childhood favorite poem by Robert Lewis Stevenson. Chloe, my granddaughter, loves to swing. |

Butterfly Ball |

The quilt top was chosen by Wessex Quilt makers (Winchester, Hampshire) as our mystery project for this year. I had great fun quilting butterflies all over this quilt - I had a ball, and I think they are enjoying themselves too! I used a variety of threads from YLI and Madeira including variegated and metallic. The top is design by Peg Bennet and available online. |

Ollie's Folly |
66 1/2" x 105" |
Faced with an ever increasing selection of novelty fabrics, but in very small quantities, I realized that many of the prints depicted things that Ollie, my Bearded Collie, is fond of - so this quilt is for him. The quilting is in Jeans Stitch thread and includes some of Ollie's favorite creatures. Can you find: 5 dogs, 5 cats, 3 fish, 1 pheasant, 1 stag, 3 squirrels, 7 sheep, 6 pigs, 1 cow, 3 birds, 4 frogs, 3 hedgehogs, 3 rabbits, and 3 airplanes? The hearts are because I love him so very much, the flowers because he makes me stop and smell the roses. All fabric is 100% cotton, Hobbs 80/20 batting. |

Blocks were appliquéd by Mabel Britton at age 12, then put away unfinished. Mabel's daughter brought the blocks to me to 'finish'. Some blocks needed repair. Then I added sashing with stars using the original orange fabric as in the blocks. I also added muslin borders. I used Hobbs cotton batting and machine quilted with pansy and other floral patterns to reflect the age of the quilt. The completed quilt was given to Mabel on her 80th birthday in January by her four children and their families. |
